Welcome to The Suttles Art Journal

Starting this journal feels like opening a door I’ve been meaning to walk through for a long time. My dad, Bill Suttles, has been making art for more than seven decades, and every painting, sketch, and scrap of paper in his studio carries its own small story. Some are vivid memories, some are mysteries, and many are pieces I’m still discovering right alongside everyone else.
My goal with this journal is simple: to document, share, and celebrate the work my dad continues to create — along with the enormous body of art he’s built over a lifetime. I’ll be posting new pieces, older works pulled from the archive, behind-the-scenes moments from the studio, and bits of history that help place each painting in the larger arc of his life.
As this journal grows, I imagine it widening a bit, too — not just keeping record of my dad’s artwork, but gradually weaving in more of the Suttles family story: my mom Pat’s vintage 1970s studio pottery, my own fine art photography, and even the antiques and collectibles that have shaped our family’s visual world.
From time to time, I’ll also share videos from our YouTube channel, where I’ve been documenting my dad painting, talking about his process, and reflecting on the pieces that have shaped his life. It’s another way to preserve these moments and give people a more personal connection to his work.
I don’t know exactly what form all of this will take yet, but it feels like the beginning of something that will unfold naturally over time.
For anyone who has followed his work over the years, I hope this becomes a place where you can reconnect with paintings you remember and discover new ones you’ve never seen. And for those just now learning about him — welcome. You’re stepping into a story that’s still being written.
Thank you for being here and for helping me preserve and share this legacy.
There’s a lot more to come.
— Todd Suttles
