Commercial Illustration — Details Unknown
Vintage architectural illustration from the archive
Every now and then, I uncover something in my dad’s commercial work that reminds me just how wide his creative range has always been. This illustration is one of those pieces. I don’t know the name of the building or the city it was created for, but based on the style and materials, it looks like it comes from the 1970s—back when architectural renderings were still done entirely by hand.
What stands out to me is how much life he brought into an assignment like this. The warm washes, the dramatic lighting, the movement of the figures—he treated the scene as more than just a technical drawing. Even in commercial work, he couldn’t help but infuse atmosphere and humanity.
If you recognize the building or know anything about the sculpture in the foreground, I’d love to learn more. Feel free to leave a comment or reach out.
