n Simplify, Simplify, Bill Suttles brings a landscape together through broad passages of color and lively pastel marks. A sweep of red and violet hillside, slender trees, and a luminous sky give the scene its character, while loosely suggested details leave room for the viewer’s imagination.
This 12 × 16-inch pastel on paper invites both a close look at the marks and a step back to see how they resolve into a landscape. Its title offers a fitting invitation: look for the shapes, colors, and relationships that carry the picture.
In the accompanying porch conversation, spend a little time with Bill and the artwork itself—an opportunity to encounter the person behind the painting as we preserve his work, voice, and stories.
