T

here are landscapes that describe a particular place, and others that seem to hold the memory of one.

In The Road Home, Bill Suttles builds the North Georgia landscape from flashes of yellow-green, rust, blue and violet. Trees, distant mountains and scattered structures remain recognizable, but the painting is driven as much by color, movement and memory as by geography.

 

In the short Show & Tell video below, Bill sits down with The Road Home again and remembers the painting in his own words.

These conversations are part of an ongoing effort to document Bill's artistic process and preserve over seventy years of experience as a working American painter.
