The Blue Door — Oil on Panel, 12 x 16 in (Sold)
Here’s The Blue Door, one of Dad’s European-inspired pieces that has always felt like stepping into a quiet side street somewhere warm. He painted this one with that loose, generous brushwork he uses when he’s responding more to atmosphere than detail—just letting the color harmony carry the scene.
What I love most is the contrast between the deep, saturated blue of the doorway and the sunlit ochres of the wall behind it. That combination is classic Dad: bold yet calm, expressive but never loud. You can almost feel him noticing how the late light fell across the courtyard, softening edges and pulling those plants into silhouette.
Since this piece has sold, I’m simply recording it here as part of his archive—one more memory preserved of the way he saw color, structure, and quiet human spaces.
