Bedrock — 8 x 10.5 in, Mixed Media Collage on Paper
This is Bedrock, a small but powerful mixed-media piece my dad made that shows just how far he can push color without ever losing balance. Even in something this compact, he layers paint, collage, and gesture in a way that feels almost geological—strata of color built up, scraped back, and re-formed.
What I love is how confidently he moves between those saturated pinks, corals, and yellows, letting them collide and settle into something that feels both abstract and strangely natural. There’s a sense of terrain in here—ridges, breaks, and edges—without ever slipping into literal landscape.
I’m adding it here as part of the archive. Pieces like this remind me how much he’s still experimenting, still curious, still painting every day at 95.
