Original 9 x 12 inch mixed media on paper — Untitled
This piece has such a strong sense of movement and pressure—dark blues washing downward, that shock of turquoise holding its ground, and the earthy olive tones settling underneath. As I’m working through the archive, it strikes me how often Dad let the materials lead the composition, and this is a great example of that: part landscape, part pure abstraction, part weather system.
I’m offering a title here only because you asked—and because the painting really does seem to name itself. “Deep Water Line” feels right to me: it catches the tension between the heavy indigo sweep and that bright horizontal band that cuts through it like a shoreline, or a boundary between two states of mind.
From my seat as his son and archivist, this one reads like a quiet, internal moment—resolved, but still moving.
