Edge of the Quiet
Pastel on paper — Sold
Every now and then I come across one of my dad’s pastels that feels like it’s holding its breath, and this is one of them. The way he handles shoreline space — the sweep of water, the suggestion of distant shapes, the weight of the rocks in the foreground — always amazes me. He has this ability to strip away detail and still leave you with the full atmosphere of a place.
There’s a calm tension here, that moment when everything goes still for a split second before the wind shifts or the tide moves again. That’s something he still captures in ways I can’t quite explain, even after seeing thousands of his pieces up close.
This one is sold and part of a private collection.
